A complete refurbishment and extensions at ground floor and upper levels.

We re-arranged a dark and inward looking Victorian house, opening up unusable spaces and reforming the house for modern family living that is newly connected to the garden beyond.

New spaces at ground floor were slotted under and around the rear section of the house using ivory bricks to clearly distinguish the old from the new allowing dining and living spaces to expand whilst retaining and creating individual character to these. The new areas are intentionally clearly new and the older retained areas of the house speak of their history.

The upper floors were rationalised into useable bedrooms and a study whilst a new dark zinc clad family bathroom was inserted at loft level to the lower section of the house.

Throughout the house, depth and richness of colour, materials and the play of light and dark create a maturity, a timeless yet modern home with family life running through it.

In the new areas of the house, beyond building regulation levels of insulation were installed to new floors, walls and roofs whilst internal insulation and roof level insulation was added to the existing walls and roofs in the Victorian areas of the house to improve thermal performance. All new glazing to the rear uses a high specification solar control glass to rminimise solar gain in these areas.
